Some Pictures and a little bit of history

I used to fish Hawk a lot in
the 60's, 70's and 80's. Originally for the tench.crucian and rudd, then for the
carp after the Wem lads unofficially stocked them from the Isle ( schhh ),
however there were a few carp present from a very early stocking and were not
fished for seriously although one used to get hooked occasionly by a tench
angler and then got busted.
In the 70's I was the first angler actually fishing for carp and used to get
some funny looks and comments by the locals especially when I turned up with my
home made bivvy and later with buzzers some said it was cheating. I caught the
first twenty from Hawk in august 1976 which went 21lb 12oz, later that year two
different twenties were caught one by the late Derek Probert who had a 21lb 7oz
and the other by my mate John Carnell who had a 21lb 3oz taken on a sealey blue
match rod because he did not have any proper carp gear then.
When I fished Hawk I used to photograph all fish in double figures and above and
I was hoping to send you pics of some of those early doubles , unfortunately I
have searched hi and lo but can't find them. However all my fish in excess of
20lb I had blowups done of them and are kept in albums, so I have scanned a
selection of these Hawk fish between 1977 & 1987 I hope these are useful. I have
added the date and where they were caught.
Looking back at these photo's I can recall the capture of each fish and it
brings back great memories also of the other anglers fishing, not so many in the
early years I used to have it virtually to myself as the only carp angler until
word got out. Please put the copyright clause in place not as though the pics
are of use to anyone else. Let me know you received this email and everything
got through alright. I know I have sent you a lot of pics but use what you want
and I look forward to seeing them on the website
